FAQ: Domain Names

How do I find out if the domain name I want is registered by someone already?
Well, part of the registration process is to search for and see if someone else already has the name or not. Just follow the steps laid out in the Step 1: Domain part in the Free Hosting section and you'll discover what's registered and not.
Which domain names are supported by ChristianHostMaster.com?
We recommend the following: .com / .org / .ca / .co.uk with .com and .org being easiest to manage.
Currently these TLDs are supported: .com / .org / .net / .us / .biz / .info / .ca / .org.uk / .co.uk
There probably are more domains that can be supported but we have not explored them at this time.
As circumstances change and request increases, we will look into other TLD names.
Do you support sub-domains? (e.g. mydomain.someoneelse.com)?
No, we do not support any sub-domain hosting at all including ones given others for free. This is because we require all second level domains to be registered through us or transferred to us.
Do you provide a free sub-domain such as mydomain.christianhostmaster.com?
No, we do not support any sub-domains under our domain names. While we buy server space and bandwidth and share this with you for free so that you can do some good in this world, we believe this is a partnership in where you must be willing to take a small cost of registering your own domain name.
I already have the domain registered elsewhere. Do I need to move the domain registration over?
Yes, due to tremendous time wastage in dealing with DNS related support, we now require that domain names be transferred to us or registered through us.
Do you provide the actual registration of domains?
No, we work with an ICANN approved third party registrar who charges you for your right to "own" these names. They provide this service including secure handling of the transactions. In some cases, the end user interface provided by them does not allow for things like handling .ca, .co.uk and .org.uk domains. (It will not allow you to register, transfer, maintain these domains - they do provide an alternate upgraded interface for a price) Until then, we sometimes have to receive monies via PayPal for such domains and then pass them on and manually submit registration or transfers for these domains.
Is it true that there is only one unique domain name in the world?
That's correct. This is the reason people are registering names like crazy! There is ONLY ONE unique name in the world! For instance, these is only one ChristianHostMaster.com in the entire world. We have members that have registered several names because they plan to use them in the coming years. The good names go fast! But there is always a gem hiding or someone lets a gem of a name lapse (forgets/neglects to renew) and you can pick that up as your own.
How long can I register a domain name for?
Depends on the TLD extension (.com, .org, .ca, etc) but a lot of them you can register multiple years for up to 10 years. Some members choose to grab and register domain names for five years or more to save themselves the hassle and potential danger of letting the name lapse.
I am a little confused with all of this.
Not to worry. We've tried to help by giving you a step by step process. We've even included a layperson's glossary of terminology. By the end of it, you'll be an expert! ;-)
